Meet The EX Space team
Hello everyone, my name’s Alex Slater and I’ve recently
joined The EX Space as your very first Community Manager! I’m really excited
about working with you, one of our growing community of EX pioneers, and wanted
to tell you a little about me and what I’ll be doing over the coming
months.
I recently graduated with a BSc in Business Management at Bangor University in Wales, where I undertook research into the changing world of work and, specifically, hybrid working for my dissertation. This is a topic I’m very passionate about as it has become a crucial element of many people’s working lives.
I’m currently taking a year out before I start the next stage of my academic journey, a MSc in Human Resources Management. Rather than opting for a relaxing gap year like so many of my peers, I wanted to gain as much relevant experience as possible during this time. To that end, I have put together a portfolio of roles designed to give me a strong grounding in people and culture and enhance my professional and interpersonal skills. In addition to this new role at The EX Space, I’m working part-time at Primark as a People and Culture Administrator, volunteering at Citizens Advice and learning British Sign Language. So much for a restful year!
I am really excited about this role as it aligns beautifully with my career aspirations, enables me to work with the incredible team here at The EX Space and, most importantly, provides an opportunity for me to learn from the incredible work you, our pioneering members, are already doing inside organisations all around the world.
So, what can you expect from me? The EX Space was conceived first and foremost as a community – a place for likeminded practitioners to learn, connect, share and support each other. Our aim is to raise the professional bar for EX practitioners, not only by delivering cutting-edge learning and sharing insights, tools and resources, but by bringing together a diverse and passionate group of people who, together, can change the world of work.
My new role is all about finding ways to make this happen - by engaging and connecting members, stimulating the conversation and helping build the collective energy of our growing community. I want to help signpost useful content, spot and share more examples of the world-class work our members are doing, identify emerging themes and ensure we’re delivering for you. I’ll be very active and visible on the community channel here on The EX Space and on LinkedIn too, so please join in the conversation.
It’s also about listening to and learning from you. The EX Space is your community and so I’m really keen to understand what you think of our existing content and resources, what you feel is missing and what you want and need to excel in your roles. I want to hear what you’re working on and the professional challenges you’re grappling with, so we can ensure we support you and deliver what you really need. So you can expect me to be asking lots of questions too!
This is an exciting time to be part of The EX Space and there are lots of great enhancements coming down the line which will help propel this community forward. In the coming months we’ll be launching our debut iOS app, delivering a more personalised, convenient and mobile experience for our members. We’ll be sharing details of our first live face-to-face events in 2025 and launching a range of themed EX PowerPacks to help kick-start your activity. These developments are in direct response to member feedback and very much align with our mission to ‘enable the EX Era’.
I look forward to connecting with you all soon!
